How To Remove Rust From Tools

Baking Soda and Water

Baking Soda can help remove rust from tools. Make a paste of baking soda mixed with a little bit of water. Apply this paste with a damp sponge or cloth onto the rusty areas. Let sit for a few minutes – then wipe off with a clean damp sponge and be sure to dry thoroughly.

Baking Soda and Lemon Juice

Make a thick paste with baking soda and lemon juice. Apply to tools – let it sit or a few minutes – then wipe it clean with a dry towel.

Coca Cola

Coca Cola also works well for removing rust from tools. Depending on the amount of tools you have fill a basin with a couple of cans of soda and let tools soak in the mixture overnight. Rust should be gone by morning. Rinse the tools clean and make sure to dry each one thoroughly.

White Vinegar

White Vinegar is another easy way to get rust off of tools. Fill a bucket or basin with white vinegar and let tools soak overnight. The next morning rinse each tool and dry thoroughly.

Kool-Aid

Kool-Aid works well not only for removing rust from tools but concrete as well. Soak the rusty tools in Kool-Aid overnight – then rinse clean and dry thoroughly the next morning.

Sand Paper

This should be used only if you have light rust spots because continuous use of sandpaper will remove metal from tools. Simply sandpaper smaller rust spots and wide clean with a clean cloth or towel.
