How To Remove a Bumper Sticker

Hair Dryer and Credit Card Method

Applying heat is a great trick for removing stubborn bumper stickers. Aim your blow drier at the sticker until the adhesive on the back begins to melt, then use a sturdy card such as an old credit card to get under the sticker to peel it up. You can also try using a putty knife covered in duct tape or a rubber spatula to get under the sticker. (Do not use a razor blade however because it can scratch the bumper.)

Hot Water

Quite often hot water is all you need to remove bumper stickers, though some might be tougher than others. Dip a rag into boiling water (wear gloves!) and place the rag over the sticker. Apply light pressure on the rag for about 30 seconds, then try to peel the sticker up from the corner. Continue to place the hot rag on more stubborn spots.

Olive Oil

Olive Oil will also make it easier to remove bumper stickers. Simply saturate the bumper sticker with olive oil – let it sit for about 5 minutes and remove the sticker when the adhesive is dissolved.

WD-40

In most cases saturating the sticker with some WD-40 will do the trick. If you can get a small corner up and spray underneath it would be perfect, however if it won’t budge, try spraying a generous amount of WD-40 onto the sticker, wait a few minutes for it to work on the adhesive – then try to remove.

Nail Polish Remover

Nail Polish remover works well for getting rid of the adhesive that bumper stickers leave behind. Saturate a cotton ball with Nail Polish Remover and rub off the glue. (Note: This is for bumpers ONLY – do not use on car finish.)
