How To Get Rid of Grass Stains on Clothes
The household tips listed below are great for getting grass stains out of clothes. Just be sure that the item is not a dry-clean item only because some of the methods below can discolor if used on sensitive items. Another thing to remember with grass stains is to be sure the stain is removed before placing the item in the dryer. Sometime a second application might be needed for extremely tough stains and you do not want the stain to set in a hot clothes dryer.
Baking Soda and Lemon Juice
Sprinkle one tablespoon of baking soda on the stain then pour one teaspoon of lemon juice on top of it. When the mixture starts to fizz, rub the fabric together to make sure the solution really gets into the stain. Then launder as usual.
Baking Soda and White Vinegar
Baking soda mixed with white vinegar will also help to remove grass stains from clothing. Put one tablespoon of baking soda in a dish, then add one teaspoon of vinegar on top of it and mix it together. When the fizzing stops, take an old toothbrush and dip it into the paste and apply it to the grass stain working it in well. Let it sit for about 10 minutes, then wash the item as usual.
Bleach, Hydrogen Peroxide and Water
This combination also makes a great grass stain remover. Mix equal parts of hydrogen peroxide and bleach with 3 parts cool or cold water. Pour mixture on the stain and let it sit for about an hour. Be sure to rinse item thoroughly, then launder the item as usual.
A hand sanitizer such as Purell, can also help to remove grass stains from washable fabrics. Simply rub a little of the hand sanitizer deep into the stain, then follow up by rubbing some liquid laundry detergent into the stain as well. Let this solution for approximately 10 minutes, then wash the item as usual.
Laundry Detergent and Water
Sometime grass stains can be removed simply by pretreating the stain before washing in the washing machine. Make a paste out of powdered laundry detergent combined with water. Dip an old used toothbrush into the paste and rub it into the grass stain well. Let it sit for about an hour, then launder the item as usual.
Sugar and Water
A warmed sugar and water mixture will also help to remove grass stains.
Simply dissolve ¼ cup of sugar with ½ cup of water in a microwave safe coffee cup or bowl and mix well. Place cup or bowl in the microwave for approximately 1 minute then pour this mixture over the stain or stains. Let it sit for about an hour then throw in washing machine and wash as usual.
Using a toothpaste such as Colgate Regular Flavor toothpaste will help get out grass stains from washable fabrics. Simply place a dab of toothpaste on a damp sponge, a small scrub brush or unused, clean toothbrush and brush the toothpaste into the stain. Rinse well with water and then launder item as usual.
White Vinegar, Dishwashing Liquid and Water
Another way to get rid of grass stains from clothes is to combine equal parts of white vinegar, dishwashing liquid and water. Work this solution into the stain really well, let it sit for about 10 minutes and throw into your washing machine as usual.
